Statement of the Central Conference of American Rabbis Concerning the Application of J Street for Membership in the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations

The Board of Directors of the Central Conference of American Rabbis endorses the application of J Street for membership in the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations.

The CCAR is the rabbinic leadership organization of Reform Judaism, with 2200 rabbis leading more than 1.5 million Jews in congregations and community organizations in North America and throughout the world.

Like those we lead and serve, the rabbis of the CCAR hold diverse views on how best to support Israel. What we share is a passionate and unequivocal devotion to the well-being and security of Israel and its character as the homeland of the Jewish People and a Jewish and democratic state. The most powerful expression of the CCAR's position in this regard is Reform Judaism & Zionism: A Centenary Platform, accepted by the CCAR in 1997.

The decision to endorse J Street's application does not constitute an endorsement of the organization itself. Rather, it reflects our conviction that the mission of the Conference of Presidents, which involves strengthening the US-Israel relationship, can be best accomplished by maintaining a diverse and inclusive membership.
