CCAR Leadership Responds to Murder of Palestinian Teenager

In response to the tragic news of the murder of Muhammad Hussein Abu Khdeir, whose body was found today in Jerusalem, Rabbi Rick Block, President of the Central Conference of American Rabbis (CCAR) and Rabbi Steve Fox, Chief Executive of the CCAR, issued the following statement:

We are horrified by the murder of Muhammad Hussein Abu Khdeir, 15, and by the possibility that this crime was committed as revenge for the murders of Eyal Yifrah, Gilad Shaar and Naftali Fraenkel. We share the view reportedly expressed by Naftali's uncle, Yishai Fraenkel, "Murder is murder. Whatever the nationality or age are, there is no justification, no forgiveness or penance for any murder." We applaud the strong condemnation of this "horrible and barbaric act" by Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat and the direction of Prime Minister Netanyahu given to "investigators to act as quickly as possible to find out who stands behind the despicable murder." We call upon Israeli authorities to employ the full force of the law to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The Central Conference of American Rabbis extends heartfelt condolences to Muhammad's family and calls upon our colleagues to mention his name when reading those of Eyal, Gilad, and Naftali when kaddish is recited this week.  May peace be established in the land and fullness of joy for all who dwell there.

Rabbi Rick Block, CCAR President, and Rabbi Steve Fox, CCAR Chief Executive
