Rabbis Speak
Resolution Adopted by the CCAR
HONORING KIVIE AND EMILY KAPLAN
Adopted at the Convention of the
Central Conference of American Rabbis
1973
The Central Conference of American Rabbis, meeting in Atlanta in the heart of
the
deep south, seeing about us some of the fruits of hard-won integration, and
returning
from paying tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr., reaffirms its long-standing
commitment
to the cause of racial equality and full justice for all people. This setting called to mind those members of our movement who have stood next to Rabbis in the forefront of this struggle.
We pay particular tribute to Kivie Kaplan, president of the NAACP, Vice-Chairman of the Board of our UAHC, and to Emily Kaplan, both patrons of our Religious Action Center in Washington, D. C., and friends of so many of our members. We take pride in them and we are inspired by them.
We pray for them--long and healthy life and sustained involvement in their life work. May they continue to bring credit to our movement and to the house of Israel. And may they see their dream for mankind fulfilled--bimherah b'yamenu .
The resolution was adopted with an order that its text be engraved on a presentation scroll.
