IN HONOR OF ALFRED GOTTSCHALK:

Adopted at the 106th Annual Convention of the
Central Conference of American Rabbis

WHEREAS, Rabbi Alfred Gottschalk has devoted his entire rabbinic career to the service of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion as the Dean of our Los Angeles School and, since 1970, as the President of the College-Institute, and

WHEREAS, under his administrative, academic and spiritual leadership the College-Institute has grown in scope of service to the Jewish people through: initiating the ordination of women as rabbis and the investiture of women as cantors; the extension of its curricular offerings both within and beyond rabbinic, cantorial and doctoral programs while supporting and encouraging the highest levels of Jewish scholarship among the faculty and members of the student body, and the physical expansion of its three campuses in North America and its campus in Jerusalem; therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Central Conference of American Rabbis express its appreciation and admiration to our esteemed and beloved colleague Rabbi Alfred Gottschalk for his 25 years of leadership as President of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. We pray that God will bless him with good health, length of years and fulfillment as he assumes his new role as Chancellor of the College-Institute.
