Resolution Adopted by the CCAR
Criminal Justice Reform Act
Adopted by the CCAR at the 87th Annual Convention of
the Central Conference of American Rabbis
1976
WHEREAS secrecy in government is threatening to our civil liberties, andWHEREAS dissent is healthy and necessary in a democracy, and
WHEREAS freedom of assembly, freedom of speech, and freedom of the press are integral parts of the American way of life, and
WHEREAS we are opposed to the death penalty as cruel and unusual punishment,
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that we express strong opposition to the Criminal Justice Reform Act of 1976 (S. 1) which would endanger the above principles, and therefore urge Congress to defeat it.
