Resolution Adopted by the CCAR

RESOLUTION ON ELECTIONS TO THE WORLD ZIONIST CONGRESS

Adopted by the 108th Annual Convention of the
Central Conference of American Rabbis

June, 1997

WHEREAS, North American Jews and other Jewish communities will be electing representatives to the 33rd World Zionist Organization Congress this December in Jerusalem, and

WHEREAS, some 600 delegates seated at the Congress represent various organizations for Israel and the Diaspora to set policies for the WZO, and

WHEREAS, the Reform Movement and the constituent agencies of Artzeinu have the ability to influence budget and allocations decisions determined by the size of its delegations to the Congress, and

WHEREAS, in these elections, the Reform Movement and the constituent agencies of Artzeinu have the ability to increase dramatically the number of our delegates thereby increasing allocations to programs of Reform and Progressive Judaism and influencing the polity of the WZO and the Jewish Agency,

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the CCAR urge our members to conduct an active get-out-the vote campaign in support of the slates of ARZA and KADIMA, and the other agencies of Progressive Zionism which make up Artzeinu in the WZO elections, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the CCAR call on every Reform rabbi to become a member of ARZA, KADIMA and the other Zionist organizations of the Reform Movement, support their membership campaigns in every Reform congregation and encourage every Reform Jew, 18 years and older, to vote in Zionist Congress elections.
