Resolution Adopted by the CCAR

Reforming Israel's Economy

Adpoted by the 103rd Annual Convention of
the Central Conference of American Rabbis
San Antonio, Texas, April, 1992

The Central Conference of American Rabbis reaffirms its call upon the Government of Israel to "expeditiously dismantle bureaucratic obstacles to economic expansion" ( 1991 Resolution on Strengthening Israel's Economy), the need for which becomes more pressing with the current large immigration. Innovative market-based and export-driven strategies must be developed rapidly to utilize newly arrived talent and to take advantage of the economic opportunity that will arise with the end of the Arab boycott and Israel's diplomatic isolation.

In this regard, we again call upon members to make Israel's economic security a subject of high priority, and by encouraging direct investment in Israeli enterprises, developing congregational study-missions to Israel that include economic components and intensifying participation by Temple teenagers in the Israel programs of NFTY and HUC-JIR.
